Let’s Focus a Light

Each light should be hung, locked down, and have a color.

  1. Pull Color: pull the color frame and set aside. We will focus without color to help to see the light
  2. Rough focus: loosen the light just enough to point the light in the general area it needs to be
  3. Beam: Fresnel - turn the focus knob so the beam is as small as possible.
ERS - ensure the shutters are open and run the barrel to a hard edge
  4. Focus: Precisily point the light at the exact area it should be. Ideally have a partner on stage to focus the light on since we usually want the hotspot on a person’s shoulders
  5. Beam: Fresnel - turn the focus knob to open the beam up as needed.
ERS - adjust the shutters to cut the light to the area as needed and adjust the beam edge.
  6. Lock down: make sure the yoke bolt, T Handles, C clamp set screw, etc. Are all tight and the light can not move
  7. Color: Add the color back into the light. Make any final adjustments if needed.
