Build a Jack

A stage brace, also called a jack, is used to support flat walls and keep them standing up. Building one is fairly simple, but will require some effort with the circular saw to cut the angles.
Unlike most things we build for the stage, this will be glued for maximum strength and durability.

  1. Gather Tools:
    • Drill with 1/8” drill bit for predrilling screw holes
    • Impact driver with star and phillips bits
    • Circular saw
    • Tape Measure
    • Pencil
    • Speed square
    • Screws 2” and 1-1/4”
    • Wood glue (not shown)
      Tools needed

  2. Cut Wood:
    • 2x 1” * 4” * 8’ (one for vertical and one for diagonal)
    • 2x 1” * 4” * 3’ (for the base)
    • scrap 1 by for supporting wood when screwing
